I am 3 Degrees of Kevin Bacon!

It goes like this:

Brian Cesak was in Fandango (1985) with Kevin Costner; Kevin Costner was in JFK (1991) with Kevin Bacon; therefore Brian Cesak has a Bacon number of 2.

Brian Cesak, after his moment in the Hollywood sun joined the Navy. I was mobilized with Brian to Seventh Fleet onboard the USS Blue Ridge in support of the Global War on Terror right after 9/11. So, although I wasn’t in a movie, I worked with Brian and I am 3 degrees of Kevin Bacon!

I know, it means nothing really, but if you know me, you are 4 degrees 😉

Navy License Plates

For those of you who don’t know, I am very recently retired from the Navy after 23 years.

If you have ever seen my cars, you realize I like personalized license plates. I have changed them quite a few times whenever I find something that amuses me and have had such winners as ILBBAC, GEEKDAD, WARDRM, and currently HHRYNW8 on my HHR.

I am going to get a Retired Armed Forces-Navy plate and I am having trouble deciding what to get on it to summarize my Navy time from being an Enlisted bubblehead to a SWO/IP CDR. I considered NVRAGN (Never Again) but it was taken. A few others were too but the following are available.

  • SUBSWO
  • CDRRET
  • QM CDR
  • FUUO
  • SWO SS
  • LNDLKD
  • NOMORC
  • NO PRT
  • FINEX
  • BKSHOE

So, would love to hear your opinion on what I should get from the list, or, if you have a better idea (6 letters) please send it on.

Thanks in advance and I hope you all have the most joyous of holidays!

Confidence and honesty…

Noah has taken to the guitar quite well. People that have been playing all their life are impressed with his ability and it has helped build his confidence, but hasn’t taken away from the traits I admire so much in him. Read more

Maybe not the best way…

My wife and I were home for lunch and caught a news story about a candlelight vigil that was held for five people who lost there life in a duplex fire. In and of itself, not a remarkable event, but my wife pointed out something I had missed. She turned to me and said:

“Don’t you think its odd to have a candlelight vigil for victims of a fire?”

Just something to think about.

How’s that gonna help!?

Another headline, this time from Kansas City, Mo:

“Books burned to protest reading decline”

Maybe if there are less books the decline in reading won’t look so bad. Things that make you go hmmm.

Kids Say, v.7.0

It’s Noah’s turn…

Trying to compliment his sister on how smart she has gotten in her 8 years, after she said something particularly intelligent he said:

“Wiseness comes with age.”

If you don’t understand, maybe you just aren’t old enough.

Who thinks up these headlines?

“No ruling yet on cause of death in Friday police shooting”

That is an actual Dayton Daily News headline today for a story about the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office and a recent local incident.

Now, I am no coroner, but I am guessing the cause of death in the shooting was bullets.

Gems v.1.0

Gems are something I stumble across that are particularly interesting, funny, poignant, or for some reason, something I just feel I have to write down. This is the first.

I was listening to Bob and Tom and one of the comics, I can’t recall who, said something I just found not only completely funny, but also thought provoking. He said, “it is next to impossible to say eBay in Pig Latin.”

You’re trying it, aren’t you 😉

Kids Say, v.6.0

Last night while dinner was being prepared, the kids where watching Radio Disney or some other age appropriate music channel. Noah came to the table singing the songs he had heard and I asked him to stop for dinner. He looked at me and said, ‘I can’t help it, they are in my head.’ Wait for it…. Read more
